Timber wolf, grey and black in color, trotted forward. His pack was growing, he had heard word that a healer would soon arrive to join his pack. Excitement flooded the young brute. His paws kissed the earth softly. Vegas struggled to get through the hard snow, it was freezing up quickly and it cracked as he passed by it, it was starting to form a small cuts on his shoulders and back and legs. His paws were sore from digging his way through.
The soft wind had turned into a strong wind that made crossing the field all the harder. His grey and black fur whipped back and he struggling to keep his footing, and struggling to keep one of his back legs warm by pressing his tail against it. His tail quickly became to sore and he let it fly back with the wind that tried to push him into the snow and bury him alive.
He made it to the center of the field and decided to lie down, he was too exhausted from fighting with the wind to carry on for much longer. His fur still whipped back with the wind as he curled into a ball with his tail around his left side and his head by his left back leg. He shivered terribly as he tried to keep his breathing down to slow his heart beat. He knew it was essential if he was going to survive this storm, he knew he had to keep body heat.
Vegas shivered harder as the wind started to pick up the snow and blow it around in a large circle like a twister, only dark clouds didn't form. Tornados needed warm air as well as cold to form. There wasn't any warm air within probably 2,000 miles. He closed his eyes as the wind whistled deafeningly around him. Tree branches were covered with ice, mix that with 70 miles-per-hour wind and the result is falling branches and sticks.
He heard the thunderous cracking and snapping of the tree branches faintly over the wind. He thought about the sound. Only then did he realize there was a tree in the center of the field. His eyes widened to the size of silver dollars. He remembered that he was under that tree! He looked up as he heard the thunderous snapping of the branches and jumped from his resting spot. But he wasn't fast enough.
A sharp yelp echoed, but didn't carry more than 50 yards, due to the wind carrying it much further in the other direction a good 150 yards behind him. His back leg was trapped under the tree branch, and it was throbbing as the 200 pound branch's weight started to sink into the snow. He jerked roughly to free his leg, no such luck. He stood up as high he could and looked around. He couldn't see more than 5 feet in front of him.
The mighty alpha whined, thinking he was the only one in the land. And he probably was, but he still needed help. He wouldn't care if a damned human walked up and helped him. He just wanted this heavy branch off. of. his. leg! He threw his head high, ears back, and eyes open in slits. He howled as loud he could for help. He needed help.
The branch was making his leg throb and, now, starting to cut off circulation. His heart rate was growing increasingly fast and Vegas knew he was losing body heat too quickly. He lowered his head and jerked his leg again, the only thing that happened was a jolt of pain. He sighed heavily.
Suddenly, he saw something coming toward him. It was large, and looked like it was something Vegas would usually avoid. It started to take shape and came into sight. Vegas shrank into a laying down position, nose pointing up and ears back as he stared into the wild eyes of a hungry male grizzly bear. It snarled angrily at Vegas, and Vegas knew this bear wanted food. Vegas whined as he knew. He howled for any nearby wolves. The wind whipped across the snowy plain, stirring the chill of winter into the air. A male wolf traipsed through the cool, his thick coat protecting him from the winter air. He had grown up in far worse temperatures, and found himself right at home amongst this weather, though it reeked havoc on his ageing hips. A number of herbs had helped to dull down the pain, but he still moved stiffly. The multicoloured wolf raised his nose to the air and breathed deeply. A growl fell from his lips as he detected the unique scent of The silvery male swivelled at the sound of a howl as it carried through the winds. The brute frowned to himself. Which ever wolf had made that sound has hurt.
A loud howl punctuated the air, a return call of reassurance as the elder brute bowed his head into the wind, ignoring the sting of fresh snow as it pelted into his fur. The brutes hips didn't allow him to run but he did try his best to move as quickly as his arthritic bones would allow. It didn't take the brute long to spot the struggling wolf beneath a tree a large bear, uncharacteristically awake in winter, obviously driven from it's den in search of food. A snarl tore from Calix's maw and he darted forwards awkwardly, his guard hairs raising, his tail pointed straight out. He was a lot smaller than the powerful bear, and the large creature seemed to consider the threat before him.
He gazed down through sleepy orbs and the wolf snarled again, snapping menacingly at the bear. Calix showed no fear, no hesitation, to do so would mean certain death. With a bellow of mirth the bear turned back around, racing off the way it had come. Calix's knees wobbled slightly with the relief and he turned to the wolf trapped beneath a rouge branch. The tree creaked ominously and he glanced up at it through grey eyes with a frown.
“Let's get you out from under there,” he told the brute, noticing the strong scent that rolled of the younger brute. He was a high-ranking wolf, that much was clear. With a grunt the wolf shouldered the branch off of the wolf. and with a dip of his muzzle he greeted the wolf.
“Don't stand up yet, I need to check your leg,” it was with an afterthought that he added with a slight dip of his muzzle, “I'm a healer, so there is no need to worry.”

Vegas closed his eyes tightly, waiting for the blow that would most likely kill him. But it never came. He opened one eye to a slit and looked around. The bear was disappearing into the blizzard. He opened both eyes now, shocked, and lifted his head. "What the-" Vegas started to speak when another voice did. He couldn't quite see the stranger, and this worried him, especially when he got the scent. It was another wolf. He started to struggle until he realized the voice was of kindness and care, Vegas could sense that this wolf wanted to help him.
He tried to stand when the weight of the branch was lifted, but was told not too. 'I'm a healer.' he heard the other male say. Gaining this new knowledge, Vegas did as the healer said. When the wind died down a little, his sight became less blurry and he could see the male. He looked nice. Vegas sniffed at him when the male was close enough. He smelt of another pack. He growled, then stopped, but then he sniffed again. Oh, it was a mistake. This male had no pack, apparently. "Healer. You have no pack. What is the use of healing if there not a soul to heal?" Vegas asked.
In a way, Vegas had just asked this male to join his pack. "I am the alpha male of this territory. My name is Vegas." he said. "What is your name?" he asked. The wind had died down again to only a slight breeze, and the snow stopped falling. His vision was restored to best once more and he could see perfectly again. Suddenly, a little red pup ran up. It was Star. "Hi daddy!" Star said, her voice was beautiful and soft, it flowed from her jaws like honey off a knife. "Hello Star." Vegas said.
Noting the presence of a new wolf, Star hid behind Vegas who was now standing. His leg was broken, no doubt, and was rather bloody, it throbbed terribly, sending jolts of pain through the young male. Star was only 7 weeks old, and her mother, Vegas's mate, Delilah, was around her somewhere. Vegas had a pack, but they seemed scattered lately. He shook his head and Star trembled from the cold. "Star, where is mommy?" Vegas asked softly. "Back at the den." Star answered. "Then why aren't you with her?" Vegas asked.
"Because Ice ran off again. She went looking for him." Star said, her voice trembling with pain. She looked as if she was going to cry any moment. "Star. What is wrong, my dear?" Vegas asked. "Cobra took Tic." she muttered. Vegas didn't understand her because he could barely hear her. "What?" he asked. The only words he heard were 'Cobra' and 'Tic'. "Cobra took Tic." Star cried, the tears flowing now. "And then he ran! Desyu followed him!" Star sobbed.
Suddenly, Dark ran up. "Vegas! Cobra! He took Tic!" Dark said. "Yes, I know Dark." Vegas said. "I tried to follow them, but Cobra ran toward the forest, I couldn't follow him through the brush, the snow was too deep! Vegas, I'm sorry, I tried to follow him, I did. But it got so bad that I couldn't even walk anymore! I couldn't go any further." Dark said. "Where was Cyclone?" Vegas asked, terror in his voice. "He was getting Isabelle." Dark said. "And where is Isabelle?" Vegas asked. "She was fighting Cobra when he took Tic. As he grabbed him, Isabelle attacked him. But she's smaller than that demon! She's hurt." Dark said.
"Damn it all!" Vegas snarled with rage and frusteration. "Get Dancer and the others, start a search! Fan the territory!" Vegas said. "Yes sir!" Dark said with a nod of her head and started to pick up Star. "No! Keep her with us. I don't want my daughter in risk of being snatched up by Cobra or anything else." Vegas said. Dark nodded and disappeared toward the direction of the den. "I set out to find Chain and everything goes to hell!" Vegas snarled. Star spoke. "Daddy, will Tic be okay?" Star asked, concerned for him. "Yes, darling, he will be okay. We will find him." Vegas assured. "Male, I'll have to learn your name later. And you will have to tend to this leg later. Right now I have to find my children." Vegas said. "And I'll need you with me in case they are hurt." Vegas said.
(sorry, I was low on muse and I needed to start something to boost it up. btw, Isabelle, Cyclone, Cobra, Ice, Desyu, Delilah, Dancer, Tic, and others are available for adoption in the Solazo Pack in the adoptibles board if you want to adopt one.)

The brute watched the happenings with a level eye. He absorbed the names, the references to others of this pack and bowed his head lightly. The brute was a silent and reserved wolf, who learnt the most from observing, rather than taking part in. From what the wolf Dark had said his pack mate was injured and most likely in need of a healer, and, if the moon smiled down upon this pack, the Alpha's son would hopefully need nothing more than a calming poly juice. An ordeal such as this was sure to influence and frighten the pup.
Yes, the healer had always believed in fate and he was sure in that moment, that he had been lead to this pack in their time of need so that he could save and better their lifes. For surely, the Alpha would not be an Alpha for long, had Calix shown up when he did. The bear that had frightened at the scent of another wolf would have made a quick and easy meal of the brute. It was of course, his belief in fate and a greater design to everything that led the brute to accept his sudden welcome to the pack. This pack was in desperate need of his abilities and Calix was determined to help this pack, his pack out any way he could.
“It's alright,” he told the brute, once again dipping his maw and casting a soft smile to the Alpha's daughter, intending for the pup to not fear him so much, “I understand your distress my lord. I know the fear that grips you when a youngling of your own seed is endangered. I must of course, impress on you, that looking for your son with your leg in this state, will only worsen the injury. I'll do my best to help it heal when the time comes but for now, lead the way...for I will follow.”
